2008 vintage was a time of extremes. Although it was very dry going into the harvest period Eden Valley received good winter rains and was looking healthy and fresh. As February progressed the weather remained dry, mild and stable, and importantly, the evenings were cool, all of which was perfect for maintaining the fine flavours and natural acids in Riesling. On the 10th March a record heat wave commenced, but luckily most of the fruit was in and the last few blocks were ready and could be harvested quickly before any effect was seen. The result was a wonderful year for Pewsey Vale. Each individual block of grapes was picked at optimum ripeness, exhibiting the classic ripe flavours and gorgeous natural acid freshness of Pewsey Vale and Eden Valley. Each individual block of grapes was picked at optimum ripeness, exhibiting the classic ripe flavours and gorgeous natural acid freshness of Pewsey Vale and Eden Valley. The 2008 Pewsey Vale Riesling is a rich and intensely flavoured wine. Classic fruit aromas of talcum, lemons and limes, with a hint of overlaying dried herb are present, along with a palate showing great length and depth with limes, and a hint of tropical fruit. The wine finishes with a soft but fresh natural acidity which balances the flavour intensity, and will reward with medium to long-term cellaring.
