Pfeiffer Wines historic, century-old cellars are located in Rutherglen, a region with a rich wine history, spanning over 150 years. Father and daughter winemaking team, Chris and Jen Pfeiffer, are privileged to work in one of Australia's oldest wine regions. The Pfeiffer 2015 Gamay was blended from fruit from our old vines (40+ years) and our young vines (15+ years). The two blocks ripen at different times, so were picked separately, but treated in the same way in the winery.
Estate 'young' (15+yo) and old (40+yo) vines, hand-picked bunches placed in airtight bins with cultured yeast and CO2, fermentation takes place within the berries of the whole bunches for 14 days, foot-crushed (pigeage) over 3 days, pressed to stainless steel for completion of fermentation, bottled mid-May. Beaujolais gamay has to be the model. Singularly well made, full of red cherry fruits, yet remains so light on its feet, the acidity sweet (!) and tantalising. Something quite special.
