High in the Hills surrounding the Barossa lies Pewsey Vale, Eden Valley's pioneer vineyard. Pewsey Vale Vineyard is the hallowed home of Riesling. The vines can be traced back to the 1800's and the original James Busby collection of cuttings brought into Australia. Today Pewsey Vale Vineyard is a single vineyard dedicated to the single variety - Riesling.

The 2016 Pewsey Vale Riesling is a classic example of dry Eden Valley Riesling, and shows the flavours we see so consistently each year from this wonderful single vineyard. A pale straw with green hues, the wine shows intense fruit aromas of talcum and lemon lime fruit, with a hint of overlaying dried herb. The palate sho ws great length and depth with limes, a hint of pineapple, white flowers and fresh rosemary. The wine finishes with a fresh natural acidity which balances the flavour intensity and a minerality that will reward medium to long-term cellaring.

Pewsey Vale Riesling's quality tradition continues. Intense yet delicate, the 2016 offers copybook floral, lime and spice aromas, ahead of a superfine, aromatic palate of superbly sustained, zesty flavour. (12 per cent alcohol; screwcap.) Ageing? Yes, two to 10 years. Food idea Linguine with crab. Price: $23-$25; Rating: 95 Points & Wine of the Week; Ralph Kyte-Powell

Final blend unbottled and unfiltered, this has plenty of fragrant lime and stone fruit aromas on the nose. There's a supple, even and succulent palate; good flesh, spicy, even and balanced. Range: 92-93 Points; James Suckling

It's a delicious young riesling. Lemon, lime and slate flavours rush straight and direct through the palate, aided though by a smidgen of textural softness. There's almost a kaffir lime leaf character here. It's hard to tell how this will age – it seems so up-and-about now – but as a young wine it tastes terrific. Alcohol : 12%; Price : $25; Rated: 93 Points; Campbell Mattinson; The Wine Front
