Parnasse Syrah 2014
Parnasse is named after the mountain grass that flowers above our vineyards each spring, marking the beginning of a long, languid summer. Francoise Estier weaves the character and strengths of a number of individual regions to create a wine style truly expressive of the South of France – beautifully ripe and expressive whilst softly structured and easy to appreciate.
Label update. Good release this one. Putting some ass in the middle of Syrah under $15 for some years now. It’s medium bodied, peppery and meaty, with bramble fruit of subtle sweetness and the perfume of wild scrub herbs. Tannin is light and gently chalky, acidity is well played and the finish is pretty long and fresh. Lovely to drink. Gulp even. Alcohol : 13%; Price : $14; Closure : Screwcap; Drink : 2015 - 2018; Rated : 90 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
A really decent medium bodied French shiraz for not very much money has to be a good thing. This is made from fruit grown in the Pay d’Oc region in the south of France by Francois Estier. It has a lighter touch with just 13% alcohol and offers sweet, dark fruit with some hints of smoky oak and soft structure. Approachability with a capital A and disarmingly easy to drink. A French treat that just about any wine drinker can afford.” Winsor Dobbin, The Sunday Examiner
Richly flavoured and wonderfully fruited, this highly enjoyable syrah is filled with blackberry, dark plum, roasted beet and spice characters. It is supple and fleshy on the palate, and shows excellent fruit purity backed by smooth texture, finishing long and delicately dry. At its best: now to 2019. $20.00. Rating: 93 Points; Sam Kim
