Schoolteacher-turned-winemaker Lindsay McCall has shown an absolutely exceptional gift for winemaking across a range of styles, but with immensely complex Pinot Noir and Shiraz leading the way. The wines have an unmatched level of success in the wine shows and competitions Paringa Estate is able to enter, the limitation being the relatively small size of production. His skills are no less evident in contract winemaking for others. Winery Rating 5 stars. James Halliday

This wine has Paringa’s typical complex bouquet of dark cherries, spice and subtle savoury new oak characters. On the palate there is powerful dark cherry/black fruit flavours well integrated with the spicy savoury French oak characters. The fine grain tannins provide weight and structure to the wine. This is an elegant Paringa pinot that will reward careful cellaring.

Perfumed, red fruits, plenty of spice and smoky cedar oak. Medium bodied, silky and smooth with layers of fine but firm tannin, cool acidity, and a long supple finish. So much to like here, but there’s a burr of warm alcohol that intrudes throughout, and peeps through keenly as the curtains close. Others may not be quite so picky about such things. As ever, the colour is bright and deep, the bouquet a wonderland of red fruits, purple fruits and spices, the palate with inimitable Paringa Estate poise and drive, the mouthwatering array of black cherries and spices lifting and expanding on the finish in best peacock's tail fashion.
