O'Leary Walker Wines was established in 2000 by winemakers David O'Leary and Nick Walker. With over twenty five years experience and established reputations making premium wine with the big companies, these two long time friends decided to take control of their own destiny and craft small batches of wine from some of the best vineyard sites in South Australia. With a great leap of faith they are now doing exactly what they set out to.
This vineyard lies in the heart of the Adelaide Hills on Wenzel Rd just south-east of Oakbank. David and Sue Cherry (nee O’Leary) planted the MV6 Clone of Pinot Noir in 1990. The soil profile is brown loam with limestone and slate schist, contributing to good drainage and moderate vigour. The elevation of this cool climate region consistently offers a natural balanced acidity to this single vineyard wine.
Pinot Noir has thinner skins and less intense pigments than other red varieties. Cold soaking assists in extracting and stabilising colour and tannins, enhancing texture and delicate varietal characters.
