O'Leary Walker Wines was established in 2000 by winemakers David O'Leary and Nick Walker. With over twenty five years experience and established reputations making premium wine with the big companies, these two long time friends decided to take control of their own destiny and craft small batches of wine from some of the best vineyard sites in South Australia. With a great leap of faith they are now doing exactly what they set out to.
David and Sue Cherry (nee O'Leary) Adelaide Hills planted this vineyard in 1990. The Adelaide Hills is arguably one of the best regions in Australia for Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. The weather patterns, influenced by the Mt Lofty Ranges seem to draw the best from these varieties. The cool climate dictates a long and even ripening, maximising varietal character and intensity of flavour. The O'Leary family vineyard at Oakbank faces north-east and is quite high on a gentle sloping hill. The soils are gravelly and well drained.
A swirl of cut grass, green pea, citrus zest, kiwi fruit and gooseberry wrapped in the embrace of minerally acidity takes no prisoners. This is a sauvignon blanc that flaunts its wares, and has no intention of backing off on the lingering finish. Should appeal to a broad church.
