A new development from Mount Langi Ghiran, although Western Australia has been famous for Sparkling Shiraz. We are looking for a newer, contemporary style with bold and bright berry fruits in the foreground. Wine will be aged on average 2 years prior to tirage to retain this freshness and tension, and blended vintages will enable us to develop a consistent Cliff Edge Sparkling Shiraz style.
I was in the Grampians recently and so I dropped into the Mount Langi Ghiran cellar door. Such a beautiful/inspiring vineyard to visit. The Langi range is in excellent form but it was the sparkling shiraz that I bought. Dare say I’ll be opening one on Christmas Day, though I’ve already nobbled a couple of bottles. I like the idea of crown seals on sparkling wine full stop, but I like them especially for special occasions … nothing like corked wine to put a dampener on the good times. It’s clear, bright, rich and lovely. It tastes of plum jam and spice, earth and chocolate. It’s smooth and clean – it showcases its pure fruit flavour beautifully. It’s just the ticket – for now, or for ageing. Rated : 93 Points Alcohol : 14.5% Price : $35 Closure : Crownseal Drink : 2010 - 2016 Campbell Mattinson; The Wine Front
