Monte Antico Rosso 2012
Neil Empson and renowned oenologist Franco Bernabei are the two names behind Monte Antico, a ‘piccolo SuperTuscan’ blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot and 5% Cabernet. Monte Antico is selected from some of the region’s best vineyards and the merits of chosen locations and strict quality parameters make for the wine’s depth, structure and character, showing abundant Tuscan seductiveness with delicious fruit that is both food-friendly and pocket-friendly
85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. A Tuscan classic! Deep ruby colour with garnet reflections, its elegant bouquet of leather, black cherries, liquorice and plums preludes a medium to full-bodied palate where ripe red fruit, goût de terroir, subtle notes of vanilla and violets harmonize and linger, interlacing with the soft tannins and silky texture. Firm backbone, perfect integration of acidity and fruit, well rounded, medium finish.
This is real Tuscan wine at an excellent price. It’s fresh and bright with dried cherry and citrus fruit aromas and flavors. Long and vivid finish. Drink and enjoy. Screw cap. Rating: 90 Points; James Suckling
