Les Courtilles (a series of small courtyards) is named after the village winery founded in 1997 by Bernard Schurr. A lifetime working and living in the South of France has built a network of friendships, allowing Bernard access to small parcels of old vines to create the Les Courtilles wines. After much experimentation, Bernard has settled on the South Rhone Valley and it’s two most famous appellations - Chateauneuf du Pape and Cotes du Rhone for Les Courtilles.

Sourced from 35 year old vines on the right bank of the Rhône between Orange and Avignon. 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre. We spent a night of our honeymoon (or “voyage de nous”, as one lady called it) in a hotel above the town square of Avignon. The room ran at, I’d guess, about a 2 or 3 degree slope. You don’t need any additional help of this inclination after a couple of bottles of Châteauneuf, I can tell you.
A nose of dark berried fruit, exotic spice with hints of wild forest. The palate is fresh and vibrant, beginning with generous Grenache-derived red berry fruits. The increased Shiraz component reveals its presence in the dense and powerful mid-palate, given definition by pronounced but supple tannins.
Another winning release under this label. Texture, character, fruit and firmness. Great package at an excellent price. Velvety cherry-plum flavours with herb and floral highlights. Garrigue. Has a brightness. A juiciness. A more-ishness. And yet it’s not simple or overly straightforward. Light on its feet too. This would be great as a house staple. Alc: 13.5%;  Price: $20; Drink: 2015 - 2019; Rated: 91 Points; Campbell Mattinson - Wine Front
This reliable Cotes du Rhone is filled with fragrant black cherry, game, floral and roasted nut aromas, leading to a flavoursome palate that is beautifully ripe and generous. Lovely pristine fruit flavours are nicely enhanced by subtle savoury notes, making it an excellent wine to partner pizzas and pastas, as well as slow-cooked dishes. At its best: now to 2018. $22.00. Moderate availability. Rating 91 Points; Sam Kim of Wine Orbit
