Leeuwin Estate is one of the founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district.
In 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi, first identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard as being ideal for the production of premium wine and provided early mentorship to Denis and Tricia Horgan who founded Leeuwin Estate in 1974. The initial vineyards were planted by hand over a five year period from 1975. Maintaining a team of highly skilled and dedicated winemakers, Leeuwin Estate is now under the direction of two generations of the founding family.
Prelude Vineyards wines are made from fruit producing the most readily expressive wines, with the objective that they will drink well soon after release. Whilst still retaining ageing potential they impart typical Margaret River impact and character. The Prelude label celebrates Leeuwin’s association with the musical arts through the staging of the annual Leeuwin Concert Series.
Death, taxes and the quality of Leeuwin Estate chardonnay. This may 'only' be the Prelude version but its quality is as clear as a bright blue sky. Pure stone fruit, sweet oak, pear and a cleansing flush of citrus through the finish. It builds, it satisfies and it refreshes. Elegance and power in one. Rating: 94 Points; Campbell Mattinson, Halliday Wine Companion
Mighty good chardonnay to be sitting just below the famous Art Series. A slightly more restrained expression than some previous wines. It has a refreshing purity and liveliness, with plenty of grapefruit and lightly charry oak. A creamy cashew touch adds some smooth texture into the middle palate.
