The LaSpinetta name has been prominent in Barbaresco since 1977, and the Rivetti clan made four cru Barbaresco wines in 2010. The family’s Barolo holdings came into the fold more recently but have quickly become known for their elegance and strength of character. The yields for these top wines are limited to about 18-20 hectolitres per hectare, and the winery work that follows is clean, high-tech and precise.
Lots of flowers, stem and berry character on the nose. It’s full body, with chewy tannins and a long, long finish. Big and powerful for the vintage. Needs at least five years of bottle age. Try in 2019. Rating: 95 Points; James Suckling
Striking nectarine and peach aromas typical of very young Barolo from a warm year. Full and ripe palate with emerging aromas of coffee, liquorice and sweet spice. Highly recommended. Rating: 91 Points; Decanter Magazine
