The 2004 vintage in Pomerol is clearly better than 2003. There was little or no heat stress and the harvest, although later, took place in ideal conditions towards the end of September/beginning of October before the rain. As in the rest of Bordeaux, work in the vineyards to curb yields was obligatory, otherwise dilution and lack of ripeness were the pitfalls for less successful producers. The best wines have deep colour, a racy fruit character, lively acidity and solid tannic frame. They lack the intensity and complexity of great years (1998, 2000) but appear to be in the good/classic mould of a vintage like 1996. If the price is right they’ll provide sound medium-term drinking. A firm, incisive wine with plenty of power and extract. Deep colour, dark fruits on the nose with the oak a little obtrusive at this stage. Sweet attack, full, round and warm flowing to a firm square structure. Tannins grainy. Freshness on the finish. Drink 2008-2015; Decanter.com

Pomerol, Bordeaux. Better than the 2003, the outstanding, deep ruby/purple-hued 2004 La Fleur de Bouard offers terrific black raspberry and berry fruit along with hints of truffles, licorice, and smoke. It is impressively textured, rich, pure, and ideal for drinking over the next 7-8 years. Drink 2006 - 2014; Wine Advocate # 165; Jun 2006 Robert Parker (90-92)

Made by Hubert de Boüard of Château l’Angélus in Saint-Emilion, this is a spicy, modern, toasty wine, showing how good Lalande de Pomerol can be if treated correctly. Wine Enthusiast: 90 points

These are very rare wines from Chateau La FLEUR de BOUARD (owned by Hubert de BOUARD, the owner of Chateau ANGELUS). This particular vineyard is on very dense clay soils that are not just close in composition but virtually identical to the soils of Chateau Petrus just a very very short distance away. Having tried this wine on a few occasions I can openly say it is without doubt one of the most complex, thick and unctuous Merlots I have ever tasted, and I personally feel compelled to take a few cases of both these cuvees home to my cellar.
