Juniper Estate is a producer of premium wines in Wilyabrup, the heart of the remote, environmentally pristine Margaret River winegrowing area lying in the south west corner of Australia about 270km south of the state capital, Perth. When the vineyard was planted in 1973 (under its original guise of Wright's), it was one of only six Margaret River wine producers (along with Vasse Felix, Cape Mentelle, Cullen, Moss Wood and Woodlands); by contrast, today the region boasts in excess of 200 vineyards. No sub-region has been historically more important to the success of Margaret River than Wilyabrup, where the first vineyards were planted and wineries built and which continues to be home to a disproportionately large number of famous, usually small, vineyards.
The Juniper Estate Shiraz is made 100% from our Estate dry grown vines planted in 1973 and hence is a single vineyard wine representing the best portions of wine that reflect the nature of the site. To make this wine the grapes were hand-picked in several batches, de-stemmed, sorted & cold soaked prior to fermentation. Following barrel maturation in batches for 18 months, individual barrels were selected to create the final blend. Structure, complexity and depth of quality fruit are the key goals with cellaring potential of at least 8 years.
Dark and dense in colour, packed with dark, ripe fruit characters of plum, cherry, blackberry and raspberry with mixed spices and mocha. The palate is full with fleshy plum and blueberry balanced by savoury, spicy liquorice flavours.
