Juniper Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
Juniper Estate is a producer of premium wines in Wilyabrup, the heart of the remote, environmentally pristine Margaret River winegrowing area lying in the south west corner of Australia about 270km south of the state capital, Perth. When the vineyard was planted in 1973 (under its original guise of Wright's), it was one of only six Margaret River wine producers (along with Vasse Felix, Cape Mentelle, Cullen, Moss Wood and Woodlands); by contrast, today the region boasts in excess of 200 vineyards. No sub-region has been historically more important to the success of Margaret River than Wilyabrup, where the first vineyards were planted and wineries built and which continues to be home to a disproportionately large number of famous, usually small, vineyards.
The 2011 vintage had a quite warm summer & autumn producing Cabernet Sauvignon with generous ripe fruit flavours and plush tannins, making for a more approachable wine in its youth. This is a single vineyard wine representing the best portions of wine that reflect the nature of the site and the weather conditions of the 2011 vintage. Small quantities of other complimentary varieties are trialled during the final blending to further add to the depth and complexity of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Elegant structure, complexity, depth of quality fruit and balance are the key goals with cellaring potential of at least 10 years.
Deep red in colour, with a nose that shows ripe blackcurrant, blackberry, plum and cherry fruits mix seamlessly with characters of sage, black olive, licorice and mocha vanillin oak. The palate is generous and silky smooth with controlled concentration of fruit flavours, super-fine chalky tannins ensuring palate length and aging longevity, along with refreshing raspberry acidity.
