Jacques Carillon Puligny Montrachet Les Champs Canet 1er Cru 2014 - Pre-Arrival
Arriving December 2016
The Carillon family domain has a surface of 11ha, through ‘Louis Carillon and Sons’, created in 1981. At present Jacques and François Carillon are the joint managers. The domaine ‘Francois-Carillon’ is the legacy of the Carillon family. Established in Puligny-Montrachet in the sixteenth century. The logo currently in use was found on an engraved stone in 1632 in a cave of the village. The wines of Carillon are regarded in the elite of the great white wines of Burgundy. Celebrated by critics and found on the map of prestigious restaurants around the world, Domaine Carillon produces white wines that are racy, elegant, fruity while embodying perfectly the terroir of Chardonnay.
The 2014 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Canet, from Carillon's two parcels, already boasts a delightful bouquet that is focused mainly upon cold stone, flint and limestone, rather than fruit. It is a little reserved at the moment, but it is also very well defined. The palate is very well balanced with a killer line of acidity that cuts through the lightly honeyed fruit. The richness of the vintage is locked into this wine, and it lingers beautifully on the sustained and harmonious, linear finish. Once again there is enough reduction present to render the nose difficult to properly evaluate. Otherwise there is both good volume and richness to the caressing and sappy medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a chiseled, cool and impeccably well-balanced finish. This is always one of Carillon's finest wines and while in 2014 it doesn't quite best the Perrières and Referts, it's still a wonderfully classy effort.
