Jacques Carillon Puligny Montrachet 2014 - Pre-Arrival
Arriving December 2016
The Carillon family domain has a surface of 11ha, through ‘Louis Carillon and Sons’, created in 1981. At present Jacques and François Carillon are the joint managers. The domaine ‘Francois-Carillon’ is the legacy of the Carillon family. Established in Puligny-Montrachet in the sixteenth century. The logo currently in use was found on an engraved stone in 1632 in a cave of the village. The wines of Carillon are regarded in the elite of the great white wines of Burgundy. Celebrated by critics and found on the map of prestigious restaurants around the world, Domaine Carillon produces white wines that are racy, elegant, fruity while embodying perfectly the terroir of Chardonnay.
The 2014 Puligny Montrachet Villages has a very succinct bouquet. Nothing outlandish, nothing extravagant - just pixelated citrus and stony fruit that makes you wonder whether this is a village cru, not a premier cru. The palate is fresh and crisp with a keen line of acidity; it is tensile and steely with a precise bitter lemon, almost sharp finish that has a subtle marine influence. This is wonderful for a village cru. Rating: 88-90 Points; Date Tasted: Dec 2015; Drink: 2016-2024; Neil Martin - eRobertParker.com #222
A wonderfully fresh and cool array is comprised by notes of apple, pear and acacia blossom. There is excellent volume to the attractively textured and relatively full-bodied flavors that possess good punch and a subtle minerality on the bitter lemon-infused finish. Note that this should drink well young. Rating: 88-91 Points; Date Tasted: Jun 2016; Drink: 2019+; Issue: 63; Allen Meadows - Burghound
