Trevor Mast Trophy for Best Shiraz, Melbourne Wine Awards '15. 100% whole bunch, a small amount of foot-stomping, and 14 months in new and used French oak. Lifted, fragrant sweet spice and pepper leap from the glass, with whole-bunch and mulberry-like aromas forcing their way through with a swirl. The palate is a flood of dark fruit with leafy undergrowth elements. Oak is unobtrusively wound in with the acidity and tannin providing admirable length and definition to the finish. Drink to: 2030; Price: $60.00; Date Tasted: Jan 2016; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 96 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday; James Halliday Wine Companion

The Trevor Mast Trophy for Best Shiraz honours the lifetime contribution to the Australian wine industry by Trevor Mast, long-time winemaker at Australia's Mount Langi Ghiran winery and a legend of the Victorian wine industry for his visionary cool climate wine production. In a class of more than 750 wines from across the country this is a tremendous privilege and honour.

Winner of the Trevor Mast Trophy for Best Shiraz at the 2015 Royal Melbourne Wine Awards. The palate is medium-bodied, but surprisingly muscular and subtle at the same time, taking time to relax and reveal the layers of flavour and texture that are a joy to tease out.

Located in a protected valley, Tarraford Vineyard has a discrete microclimate which is cooler than neighbouring sites. A diversity of aspect and clone provides multifaceted winemaking opportunities. We are committed to exploring biodynamic farming practices with the overall aim of further developing the vineyard fingerprint and embracing the unique personality of this site.
