Tricia Byrnes and Kevin Bell first planted vines at their Balnarring property in 1998 with the sole intention of creating three single vineyard pinot noirs. Their philosophy centers around respect of the environment as they see their most important role is viticulture. Their wines are from three separate vineyards with slightly different aspects that are planted with different clones of pinot noir. All their wines spend 18 months in oak (new) and a further 12 months in bottle prior to release.

East facing. This vineyard is temperate and peaceful – sheltered and a little cooler than the other two. It is 3 acres and of clone MV6, which historians tell us originated in 18th century Burgundian stock brought to Australia by the early European settlers. Claude Garamond (deceased c.1561) was a Renaissance French typographer, a devoted artisan whose elegant font appears on our label and stationary.

Produced entirely from the 1.2ha east-sloping vineyard planted to clone MV6; matured in French oak (one-third new) for 18 months, neither fined nor filtered. The very light, but brilliantly clear, colour introduces a perfumed bouquet, a delicate palate with perfectly balanced small red fruits, and a whisper of tannins.
