Also a lovely mid-garnet, the nose shows immediately that, at 14 years old, this vineyard is maturing. There are still red cherries and plums but now also cranberries and pomegranate, plus sweetmeats and dried herbs. The palate is intensely complex with several red briary fruits alongside herbs and spices, disturbed earth from the forest floor and firm tannins (that will soften with age). Tremendously focussed and tight and needing time in cellar or decanter (preferably both), this wine may be showing us the future of Garamond. Alc/vol 13.9%. To 2026 and beyond. 300 cases made.
East facing. This vineyard is temperate and peaceful – sheltered and a little cooler than the other two. It is 3 acres and of clone MV6, which historians tell us originated in 18th century Burgundian stock brought to Australia by the early European settlers. Claude Garamond (deceased c.1561) was a Renaissance French typographer, a devoted artisan whose elegant font appears on our label and stationary.
