Hoddles Creek Estate was established in 1997 when the D'Anna family decided to establish a vineyard on the property that has been in the family since 1960. The vineyard sits astride Gembrook road and adjacent Hoddles Creek. Its steeply sloping blocks prohibit mechanical harvesting, with both vineyards being hand pruned and harvested. All our wines, which are single vineyard, estate grown, are made in our 300 tonne winery, constructed for the 2003 vintage. The split-level winery has a barrel store located three meters underground. Hoddles Creek Estate is planted with 10ha of pinot noir (five clones), 6 ha of chardonnay, 1ha each of sauvignon blanc, merlot and cabernet sauvignon, and 1.5ha of pinot gris.

The bouquet is gloriously fragrant and flowery, the red and blue fruits immediately picked up by the palate which then moves on with its vibrant spicy whole bunch notes adding more layers to its seemingly endless finish. Ultra-detailed grape growing and vinification from Franco D'Anna. Drink by: 2030; Price: $45.00; Date Tasted: Sept 2016; Alcohol: 13.2%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; Top 100 Wines of the Year 2017; James Halliday; James Halliday Wine Companion

The 2015 Estate Pinot Noir was a terrific wine for me, or right in my wheelhouse, as they like to say. The minute you put your nose to the glass you’re transported to the world of ‘fine wine’. This has clarity, precision and fairly glides through the palate. Red cherry, raspberry, dried roses, fine spicy biscuitty oak, clean earthiness, and almost a liquorice root succulence too, but throughout its signature is restraint and subdued power. Ultra-fine tannin shapes the wine surely like the firm stroke of an emery board, the acidity so pure and clean, and the finish long, crisply ironed and perfumed. Australian Pinot Noir eh? “You’ve come a long way baby.” Tasted: Nov 2016; Alcohol: 13.2%; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2017-2030+; Rating: 96+ Points; Gary Walsh - The Wine Front
