Head Wines was started in 2006 by Alex Head. It focuses on single site Rhone Varietals from the Barossa and Eden Valleys in South Australia. The House style is one of elegance, freshness, balance and purity of fruit attained by a combination of low yields, early picking, slow-winemaking and careful, gentle attention during elevage. Each Head Wine not only represents Alex Head's strong views on what makes balanced, drinkable wines but a guarantee of absolute quality, value and consistency.
Dried mint, sage, oak, truffle, blackberry and raspberry – archetype of Eden Shiraz here. Dense, but medium weight, all blackcurrant and raspberry and dried mint. Clarity. Length. Such depth and finesse to the tannin. And the length, again, is worthy of a second mention. If you’re an Eden Shiraz fancier, you’ll be chomping greedily at the apple here. Rating: 96 Points; Drink: 2017-2035+; Price: $95; Date Tasted: May 2014; Alcohol: 14%; Gary Walsh - The Wine Front
