Head Wines was started in 2006 by Alex Head. It focuses on single site Rhone Varietals from the Barossa and Eden Valleys in South Australia. The House style is one of elegance, freshness, balance and purity of fruit attained by a combination of low yields, early picking, slow-winemaking and careful, gentle attention during elevage. Each Head Wine not only represents Alex Head's strong views on what makes balanced, drinkable wines but a guarantee of absolute quality, value and consistency.

I suspect it’s mainly Grenache, or certainly tastes like it. This is a perennial bargain in the Australian winescape. Raspberry juice, musk, spice and perfume. Medium bodied, supple and succulent, ultra-fine powdery tannin, clean acidity, a touch of meatiness, with a smattering of dried herb and brick dust tannin cleaning up the finish.  Flat out delicious: a bonus point for that. Tasted : Jun16; Alcohol : 14.5%; Price : $25; Closure : Screwcap; Drink : 2016 - 2020+; Rated : 93 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front

Youthful, deep red/purple colour with a fresh, young, and somewhat plain aroma of plum and herb. The palate is again straightforward, but has depth and weight and there is some acid and tannin astringency on the finish. A big, bold wine with potential. It could reward some cellaring. Drink 2018 to 2033; Rating: 91 Points; Huon Hooke
