The name Gaja needs no introduction to lovers of Italian wine. Founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja the estate is today run by his great-grandson, Angela Gaja with his daughters Gaia and Rossana playing a major role in the business. Angelo can take the credit for revolutionising the wine industry in Barbaresco and Barolo. Responsible for the implementation of temperature controlled fermentations, malolactic fermentation, the introduction of international varieties and the use of French barriques. The range of wines from the estate is stunning - from the top end and Barbaresco's and Barolo's, through to his Tuscan estates, Pieve Santa Restituta and Ca'Marcanda. One of the great names in the world of wine.

The 2001 Brunellos show the pedigree of the superior vintage. Gaja’s 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Sugarille is the more potent of the Brunellos. It displays a darker color along with notes of tar, smoke, spices, toasted oak and dark fruit on a full-bodied frame with terrific expansiveness and length on the palate.
