Fraser Gallop Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2015
Fraser Gallop Estate is set upon 165 acres of undulating land on Metricup Road, Wilyabrup, in the Margaret River region. It is a marvellous location close to other premium producers. Six kilometres from the coast our climate is warm and dry and is moderated by the effect of the Indian Ocean.
The debate rages as to the merits of Semillon dominance versus Sauvignon Blanc dominance in the white Bordeaux varietal blends. Fraser Gallop believe that by creating a wine dominant in Semillon they highlight the strength of the variety in the Wilyabrup sub-region. The relative warmth of the area compared to the southern sub-regions allows us to ripen the Semillon beyond the herbal elements, achieving golden bunches with a strong citrus flavour. This is complemented by the Sauvignon Blanc whichis sourced from further south in Karridale. Coming from a cooler area it has zesty acid and punchy aromatics giving the wine some lovely passionfruit and gooseberry notes on the nose.
In Fraser Gallop style, manages to pack more flavour - 100% authentic - into the wine than most others in this highly competitive bear pit. There is the full citrus range first up, with grapefruit obvious, then the response (but not a challenge) of tropical fruits. You barely notice the absence of oak.
