Say you had a corked/oxidised/cooked bottle of a wine that you would have expected to be good - does this experience put you off purchashing or seeking that wine in its proper form?

Yep. I try to not let it but the smell of some of them have been so bad I cant bring myself to try again.

It's prob worse if they're only partially corked 'cause I probably haven't had enough experience to pick it up and will prob think its just a poor wine.

Only if it happens repeatedly. Like old Mt Pleasant Elizabeths - Every bottle you open is wildly different - one corked, one oxidised and then one good, all from the same case. I'm tired of the Elizabeth lottery and would only buy it in screwcap now.

I reckon you're referring to what should be known as the "any hunter semillon under cork lottery". With the majority having moved to screwcap, I'm more confident in cellaring now. I'll buy Elizabeth if it's under stelvin, and avoid if under cork. Same goes for the Tyrrells semillons. I guess because of their agedness at release, there are still some vintages to come under cork...

If it's a wine-making fault its highly likely. Otherwise, not unless it happens far too often or is an obvious supply/storage related issue ie heat affected by the retailer etc. and then only from that supplier... Evil or Very Mad

Consciously - not unless for the reasons others mention here.

Subconsciously though, I suspect it does have an influence.

I agree with the as long as I can pick the fault argument. But once the fault is picked my key deciding factor on repurchase is how I am treated on trying to return the bottle if there is a problem then the wine is generally blacklisted. If no problem with replacement then I am happy to continue buying.
