The style of presentation is the first distinguishing feature from this Yarra Valley maker. The wine label appears handwritten in a nicely casual style. Greg Roberts is the winemaker ably supported by Serge Carlei. The Halliday annual notes the current production of 650 cases.

According to the winery website the chardonnay fruit is estate grown and is from low yielding (1.5 tonnes to the acre) non irrigated vines and matured in new and one year old French oak barriques for 12 months. The alcohol is 13% and the wine is bottled with the cork flour/synthetic hybrid Diam seal.

Medium straw colour. Stonefruit and melon chardonnay characters evident on the nose. The oak is indicated but not intrusive. The palate is medium weight with some buttery (malo?) notes. A lemony element comes in on the palate which also provide addtional character. The flavours build across the palate giving nice breadth before a good long finish. A very nicely structured cool climate Chardonnay that is nicely enjoyable now and will also support medium term cellaring.

RRP: $30

Food Match: Grilled Fish

Drink 2007-2010

Quality: 91/100 (Excellent) Value: Good - MA StarPanel© November 2006
