I'm not sure this is actually BYO, but if you ask and you're coming in from Australia with a few bottles I expect it would be fine

Cuisine: Vietnamese. But a bit washy in definition, almost western in style. i.e. braised pork belly, with a touch too much belly.
Service: Fantastic. Could not expect anymore.
Food: Pretty good, I thought many of the dishes needed added texture, spice, or a good whack of bitterness. (dish dependant) it just didn't push the boundaries I expected. A few days previous I had frogs legs in Hanoi (which had to be toads legs) and here I expected something like fried grasshopper. I wanted to be challenged. But the canapes were super.
Value: Not sure, never saw the bill, but compared to aus it had to be cheap.
Ambience: It's a lovely place, but it's not buzzing. You'd want to be with a crowd that makes their own noise.
Glassware: Exceptional
Wine list: Didn't look
BYO Details: Ask
Offline Prospect: Excellent, there's a great space upstairs and they have awesome Karaoke contacts Wink

Contact details: Easy to google, and they're on facebook too.

Overall I'd sort of put this place as a venue you'd go to if you were Vietnamese and out for a good occassion, or an Aussie that just wanted a break from Vietnam. Because quite honesty, when you're inside you could be anywhere.

They have a great space downstairs for cocktails too.

I forgot to write down the name of 2 restaurants in Hanoi, but there was an awesome place in the French Quarter that needs a try (it was booked out for us)
If anyone ever needs the name just let me know as I can get it quickly.
But personally, I wouldn't bother with Hanoi.

The local beer is less than $1 a bottle Dan with a big bowl of Pho at a street vendor. That's the way to go in Hanoi Wink

You may be right about Hanoi street food. I was with the wrong person I feel. I'll be there in a few months so I will check it out. Not that I want to. Horrible place.

Quan An Ngon in District 1, Ho Chi Min.

Apparently it has been 'discovered' now but back in 2003 it really was excellent.

cheers

I believe that the whole of 'Nam has been discovered now. Back in 1991 we had rocks thrown at us on a number of occasions because they assumed we were Russian.

Pretty much we ate street food for a month and it was always good and cheap.
