Egly-Ouriet is one of the reference-point growers in Champagne, with a deep selection of wines that offer remarkable transparency to site, vintage and variety. These are among the most pure, unmanipulated Champagnes readers will come across, and the estate’s new releases are all highly recommended. Antonio Galloni - The Wine Advocate

The "V.P." stands for Vieillissement Prolongé (prolonged ageing), as the wine spends so long on lees (this release 70 months!) in bottle prior to disgorgement. 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, the base wine is 60% from the 2003 vintage with 40% reserve wine. The fruit comes from Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay - all great Grand Cru, Pinot Noir vineyards. Vinification and élevage in oak casks for the most part, with the dosage being less than 2 grams per litre, making it an extra brut. The extended lees ageing grants such harmony of bubbles and wine, so much length, complexity and texture, that the dosage can be lowered to a bare minimum, and the result is a vinous, pure Champagne. After 7 odd years in the cellar, this Cuvée expresses its full power and elegance.

The NV Extra-Brut Grand Cru V.P. Viellissement Prolonge is Pinot Noir from Grand Cru vineyards in Bouzy, Ambonnay and Verzenay that spent 70 months on its lees. This is the most intense wine in the Egly-Ouriet line-up. White truffles, roasted nuts, honey and candied apricots are layered beautifully in this creamy, expansive Champagne. Early tertiary notes make this an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Disgorged May, 2010. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2018. 94 points, Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate # 192 Dec, 2010.
