Drake was created by a motley group of winemakers and sommeliers, born from a shared belief in creating thought-provoking wines of individual character and expression.
Sourced from a single vineyard planted in 2001 and located in the Coldstream region of the Yarra Valley. The vineyard is planted to . I10V1 and 76 clones and is spur pruned with VSP trellis and was leaf plucked on eastern side.
A fine and tight nose with aromas of white peach, a hint of melon and subtle notes of struck peach. The palate is elegant and driven by fine acidity however a depth of ripe stone fruit flavours is beginning to express itself. A riper expression of new wave Yarra Chardonnay that is a rewarding experience now and for the medium term.
From a single vineyard planted '01, clones I10V1 and 76, night-harvested, two-thirds fermented in stainless steel with high solids, one-third wild-fermented (including mlf) in used French oak, matured for 2 months. Is this a steal or is it not? It has fantastic drive and focus, the Yarra Valley length on full display, as are the fruit flavours of grapefruit and white peach. Oak has made no impression. Alcohol: 13%; Drink By: 2026; Price: $20.00; Rating: 92 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
