Deep Woods Estate was established in 1987 and acquired by the Fogarty family in 2005, making it part of the Fogarty Wine Group. Under the FWG banner, Deep Woods Estate has been transformed into one of Margaret River’s most awarded and highly regarded wineries.

The 2020 harvest in Margaret River continued a run of excellent vintages. The fruit for this not-quite southern Rhône blend was sourced from various mesoclimates throughout the Walcliffe area of the Margaret River wine region.

Primary fruit aromas of plums, raspberries and ripe blueberries mixed with aniseed and notes of spice from the use of oak. The palate exhibits a complex mixture of spice and fruit. White pepper, juicy plums and ripe red berries are all evident and are well supported by seasoned French oak. The tannins are soft, round, persistent and very fleshy.

Fermentation and maceration proceeded for 12–14 days, thence to French barrels for 15 months maturation. Vivid colour; it beggars belief this has an RRP so low. It's the real deal – a wine with layer upon layer of red and black fruits and serious tannins, and then given that time in French oak. Drink to: 2033; Price: $20.00; Date Tasted: Sept 2021; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 94 Points, Special Value Star & Top 100 Wines for 2021; James Halliday Wine Companion
