Domaine de Villaine is located in Bouzeron, nestled in the Côte Chalonnaise region between Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay to the north and Rully and Mercurey to the south. Planted with vines by the monks of Cluny in the Middle Ages, this small, sunny valley has a rich and lengthy tradition of producing quality wines which reflect their exceptional terroir.
The millerandage permitted that we picked a small quantity of very beautiful grapes. The wine aged in barrels and big wooden cask (foudres), exalts of fresh white skin fruits, very crisp, the presence of the fruit doesn't hide neither the finesse nor the natural elegance of this wine.
There is a hint of lactic character on the otherwise restrained and fresh nose that combines notes of pear, apple and discreet citrus hints. In the same fashion as all of the wines in the range there is fine richness and density to the vibrant medium-bodied flavors that deliver solid persistence on the saline-inflected finale. The texture is relatively fine and while the nose is awkward my score assumes that the lactic element will dissipate with a year or so of bottle age. Score: 88 Points; Tasted: Oct 2015; Drink: 2019+; Issue: 60; Allen Meadows - Burghound
