Established by the Lloyd family in 1967, Coriole is family owned and operated and has established a reputation for being a dynamic and innovative producer. Sangiovese was pioneered in Australia by Coriole with the first plantings in 1985. Other Italian varieties such as Fiano have Coriole at the forefront of alternative varieties. Chenin Blanc & Shiraz have a long and successful history at Coriole, with the flagship, Lloyd Reserve Shiraz included in Langton's Classified Wines of Australia.

Typical of the 2022 vintage this release shows bright, red fruit and lifted florals. The beguiling, Pinot-esque nose is loaded with aromas of earthy, forest floor, mace, anise, cassia bark and juniper berry. The creamy, delicate palate shows wild strawberry, cherry, raspberry, foraged mushrooms and an enticing creme brulee torched toffee character. The tannins are fine, feathery and have classic firm, Sangiovese length.

Ever reliable, and such good value with it. Cherry, red fruits, a smattering of dried herb and aniseed, new leather, also a little ferrous. It’s medium-bodied, crisp and lively, red fruits and almond, well-etched gently sandy tannin, good length and plenty of varietal character. Good now, likely better again with another year or two in bottle. Alcohol: 14%; Price: $30; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2024-2032+; Rated: 93 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
