This sandy, west-facing vineyard is named after Roman’s private residence, which celebrated its 100th birthday in 1997. The Syrah and Mourvedre patches consistently offer plush flavour intensity, ripe tannins and good acidity.

This wine forms part of Clarendon Hills’ ‘1er Cru’ classification. Typically cote rotie in its expression. Lifted smoky, peatiness headlines the graphite and tobacco-edged syrah forging process. Pleasing mid-palate depth and balanced complexities watermark the potential life span and enjoyment window for this cuvee. This class is highlighted by its potential to be enjoyed now or cellared confidently for 25 years.

Good crimson-purple; aromas of black fruits and licorice, then a palate with above average intensity, likewise tannins running through the length of the palate, giving a strongly savoury cast to the wine; needs further time in bottle. Drink by: 2030 Alcohol: 14.5% Rating: 94 Points; James Halliday
