Cirillo The Vincent Grenache 2015
Marco Cirillo, one of the super, impossibly nice guys of wine. Marco with his family’s six year matured hams that taste like cheddar cheese and have the texture of brie, with his sandy soiled ancient vines, excitable German short-haired pointer, with his goats that are raised to be butchered, with a sense of family and history and culture that seems both adjunct and in-tune with the Barossa Valley. Here, his step-up-and-swing-wildy grenache.
Leaps out of the glass. Has this supple, slick feel with, indeed, some ‘pinosity’ or pinot noir-like feel, yet slips in deep, purple berried-palate staining fruit, earthy spice, musk, and holds you in with soft tannins and mouthwatering acidity. Perfume is all that – floral, fruity, spicy, faintly earthy and twiggy. It’s unreal drinking with loads of character, even though pretty simple as a wine. Mad to not like this.
