Belle-Vue 2010 (En-Primeur 2013 delivery)
- SKU
- 3157
From the family of the late Vincent Mulliez, like Gironville. Blackish. Very chewy finish and lots of concentration on the way. Something like elderberry juice here. No shortage of oomph but this needs time. It’s a bit brutal on the finish at the moment. Drink 2016-2024; 17 Points; Jancis Robinson One of the finest over-achievers in the southern Medoc, Belle-Vue is a 36-acre vineyard situated close to Giscours. The 2010's final blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and a whopping 20% Petit Verdot hit 13.5% natural alcohol. The wine boasts a dense purple color along with sweet black currant, cherry, licorice and barbecue smoke notes, medium body, supple tannins and a refined, elegant, lusty style. It is the kind of low level Bordeaux that sells for a song and will make consumers happy. Robert Parker; Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate The Belle-Vue 2010 has a ripe, toasty, almost exotic bouquet with a touch of Turkish Delight! But it has good delineation and purity – very pretty and enticing. The palate is ripe and extrovert with prominent vanillary new oak, quite tannic and sharp on the finish, very polished but perhaps a little predictable? Decent enough. Tasted April 2011. Canon La Gaffeliere 2010 (En-Primeur 2013 delivery)
- SKU
- 3073
One of the first to work with the now famous Stephane Derenoncourt, proprietor Stephan von Neipperg continues to fashion some of the most consistently outstanding wines in Bordeaux. This 2010, a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon made from tiny yields of 28 hectoliters per hectare, achieved 14.5% natural alcohol - perhaps the highest Canon La Gaffeliere has ever achieved. Dense, sweet, open-knit black cherry, licorice, incense and cassis aromas soar from the glass of this opaque purple-colored offering. Full-bodied, pure and undeniably sexy yet larger-scaled than normal, this beautiful wine should drink well for 15 or more years. Score: 92-94 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (194) This is tight and powerful. Solid frame of fruit and tannins. Curious about this. Like the 2009. Cantenac Brown 2010 (En-Primeur 2013 delivery)
- SKU
- 3042
One of the finest Cantenac Browns made in the last half century, the 2010 may be even more impressive than the 2009. Sweet, fat notes of blackberries, forest floor and earth emerge from this inky/purple-colored beauty. The tannins are slightly more serious and elevated than in the 2009, but the big, bold, full-bodied 2010 represents a remarkable turn around for this estate, which has now produced three straight top-flight vintages. It should drink well for 25-35 years. Score: 92-94+ Robert Parker, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Chewy and structured, with ripe fruit and ripe tannins. Tar and dark fruit character. Full body. Tasted at Calon-Segur, this sample was taken from a new barrel, though it will be raised in 80% new oak. This is the first vintage to be vinified at the new cuverie and is a blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot with the addition of 10% vin de presse. This has an attractive bouquet with brambly black fruits, a touch of hot slate and wild hedgerow. Very natural. The palate is medium-bodied with powdery tannins on the entry, good acidity and a lot of freshness on the finish, with notes of blackberry, wild strawberry and a touch of tobacco. What a great Saint Estephe! Drink 2012-2022. Tasted March 2011. Score: 90-92 Neal Martin, eRobertParker.com Blessed with some excellent vineyards as well as an ambitious owner in Mme Denise Gasqueton of Calon-Ségur, it shouldn’t surprise us that this is so good. But it may well be the bargain of the vintage: sexy, fleshy and supple, with notes of sandalwood, cassis and blackberry, firmed up by fine tannins. 8+ years. Top Ten Value Reds of the 2010 En Primeur Vintage. 94 Points; Tim Atkin MW Lovely cassis nose, smoothness of texture and weight, a polished and classy wine. The powerful 2010 is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc and the balance mostly Merlot except for dollops of Petit Verdot and Carmenere that achieved 14.5% natural alcohol - a record at Clerc Milon. An intense purple color is followed by notes of incense, creme de cassis and flowers and a broad, rich wine with superb purity, concentration and depth. This layered, expansive effort could turn out to be one of the finest this estate has ever made. Give it 3-5 years of cellaring and drink it over the following two decades. The 2010 Chateau Coutet has 154-gms/litre residual sugar, one of the highest in Sauternes/Barsac. It is endowed with a delightful bouquet of freshly sliced mango, Tropicana and a touch of honey, with good definition and minerality. The palate is medium-bodied with very impressive balance and poise, and is slightly viscous in the mouth, with almond, lemon curd and a touch of orange peel. The finish is composed and long. The 2010 Coutet is very impressive for the vintage, although I suggest not quite reaching the stellar heights of the magnificent 2009. Giscours 2010 (En-Primeur 2013 delivery)

It is a little unsettling to realize that 2009 and 2010 may be the greatest back to back Bordeaux vintages produced in the history of the region. The over-achieving Giscours has turned in a great performance in 2010, which possesses an opaque purple color as well as notes of licorice, black truffles, sweet blackberry and cassis fruit, flowers and soil undertones. It is very full-bodied and exceptionally opulent, fat and round, but the vintage's acids, precision, high glycerin, alcohol and extract are all present. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 25-30 years. Score: 92-95 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (194), May 2011 Tasted twice at the chateau and the UGC, a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon (the highest ever) and 29% Merlot that cropped at 25-27hl/ha. It has a pH of 3.6 and 13.7% alcohol. I must say, I really love the purity on this nose as dark cherries, cassis and crushed flower soar from the glass. Very fine delineation here. Gruaud Larose 2010 (En-Primeur 2013 delivery)

This gets my nod as the finest Gruaud Larose since the 2000 and 1990. The opaque purple-colored 2010 exhibits copious notes of Asian plum sauce, spice box, creme de cassis, loamy soil and a beefy/meaty character. It is full-bodied, dense and powerful, with stunning purity and no evidence of brett (a characteristic of the great Gruaud Larose wines made in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s). Given the 2010's tannin profile, it will require 5-8 years of cellaring and should keep for three decades thereafter. Possessing a deep ruby/purple hue as well as notes of creosote, charcoal, tobacco leaf, black currants and cherries, this sleeper of the vintage is opulent and luscious with a multilayered texture. Probably the finest La Dominique made since the wonderful duo of 1989 and 1990, the explosively fruity, dense purple-hued 2010 offers notes of licorice, roasted herbs, truffles, black raspberries and blueberry liqueur. Full-bodied and unctuously textured with sweet tannin as well as good freshness and precision, it should drink well for 15-20 years. P. S.
