Castle Rock Estate is nestled on the eastern slopes of the Porongurup mountain range and is named after a prominent nearby landmark. The vineyard has a cool and elevated northerly aspect, resulting in intensely flavoured wines. This is 100% estate grown and vintaged. The aroma, quintessentially Pinot Noir, is of complex cherries and strawberries. It has a lively, balanced, rich palate. The French oak, fine tannin structures give the wine a long fine finish and after taste. With appropriate cellaring this wine will develop wonderful complexity.

Whiffs of green herb, pepper over red cherry/pickled cherry, maraschino, warm spice. Good start. Floods the palate with cheery, bright fruitiness but has a savoury vein and a spread of tendril-like tannins that draw the wine tight to a lacy finish.  Tasted: Nov 16; Alcohol: 13.8%; Price: $34; Closure: Screwcap; Rated: 91 Points; Mike Bennie; The Wine Front
