Castle Rock Estate Pinot Noir 2014
Castle Rock Estate is nestled on the eastern slopes of the Porongurup mountain range and is named after a prominent nearby landmark. The vineyard has a cool and elevated northerly aspect, resulting in intensely flavoured wines. This is 100% estate grown and vintaged. The aroma, quintessentially Pinot Noir, is of complex cherries and strawberries. It has a lively, balanced, rich palate. The French oak, fine tannin structures give the wine a long fine finish and after taste. With appropriate cellaring this wine will develop wonderful complexity.
Very good hue and clarity; a wine that goes from strength to strength as Rob Diletti's experience and the vineyard's maturity grow each vintage. Its strengths are its balance, harmony, varietal purity and length. It's hard to ask for more - this is the best Great Southern pinot. Drink by: 2025; Price: $35.00; Date Tasted: Sept 2015; Alcohol: 13.8%; Rating: 96 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
Oh boy, Rob Dilleti knows how to make pinot noir. This is another cracking good wine from him. South cherry and smoky savoury oak, with traces of plum and damp foresty characters. The palate shows some delicious raspberry and cherry tones with firmish tannins and fine grained oak. There is a steely thread which is pure pinot holding the lines through to the finish. Exceptional wine. Cellar: 10 years; Rating: 95 Points; Ray Jordan
