As one of Margaret River’s ‘founding five’ wineries, Cape Mentelle pioneered many of the region’s renowned wine styles and today is a benchmark for the quality of the region’s wines.
58% Sauvignon Blanc, 42% Semillon. Pale straw with green hues. Aromas of white melon, lime, grapefruit, honeysuckle, blackcurrant and a hint of chalk dust. Juicy clean and fresh with talcy pithy structure balancing the rich fruit flavors of limes, passionfruit and lychee. The texture is creamy and the finish bright, intense, long and elegant.
Cool/wet year in Margaret River but it hasn’t hurt this aromatic white blend one iota. Mark this down as a ‘buy’. It’s buoyant with fruit flavour, slings admirably through the finish, has body, has texture, and while entirely fruit-driven it avoids coming across as simple via its edges of thistle-like flavour. It’s a beauty. Tasted: May17; Alcohol: 13%; Price: $26; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2017-2020; Rated: 93 Points; Campbell Mattinson; The Wine Front
This is Cape Mentelle's biggest selling wine in the U.S., and one taste makes it clear why. It's got some of the herbal and passion fruit notes of Sauvignon Blanc, balanced by the strong citrus of Semillon. It's clean, crisp and long on the finish, with a lightly silky texture that lingers. Drink now. Rating: 91 Points; Wine Enthusiast
This always hits the spot as it neatly blends some zesty citrus and subtle tropical fruit to savouriness on the palate. Texture and lemony acidity adds to the appeal. Drink by: 2020; Price: $26.00; Date Tasted: Jan 2017; Alcohol: 13%; Rating: 95 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
