The Brezza vineyards mostly lie in and around the small town of Barolo, the rest are located in Novello, Monforte d’Alba and two vineyards for Barbera and Nebbiolo d’Alba, the ‘Santa Rosalia’ site, are on the way up to Alba. In Barolo, a couple of hectares are taken up by Brezza’s famous Hotel Barolo and its wonderful ristorante.
The 2013 Barolo Sarmassa is the most inward of the 2013 Barolos. Smoke, iron, savory herbs and a host of ferrous notes abound. Powerful and also a bit rough around the edges, the 2013 is very much closed in on itself today. If it softens, the 2013 might merit a higher score, but today it is unyielding, even within the context of young Barolo. Rating: 91+ Points; Antonio Galloni
