The Great Western range of wines provides an ideal introduction to the unique wine style of Great Western. These accessibly priced wines show detailed aromatic qualities set within a medium-bodied framework. The ‘continental’ climate, relatively unique in Australia, defined by cold nights and warm afternoons, means the fruit grown here develops flavours slowly through the day, building intense and varietal aromas and characters.
Cabernet Sauvignon from Great Western works well from the right sites. Warmer and north facing sites tend to produce the best fruit. As is common in other regions, Cabernet Sauvignon in Great Western is picked late in the vintage season to allow for good fruit flavour and texture - the warmer vineyard sites and a little longer on the vine results in a supple wine with intense varietal characteristics.
Perfumed aromatics of cherry blossoms, brambly fruits and green tea. Brooding dark fruits, cocoa and oak spice play in the background. Intense varietal flavours coat the mouth and are held in place by the soft acidity and powdery tannins. Rich, yet fine and medium bodied.
