The winegrowing farm Piero Benevelli, situated in Monforte d’Alba in the heart of the Barolo Langa, is composed by around 8 hectares of vineyards, from which approximately 40.000 bottles of wine are produced. This quantity allows us to maintain a family management of the Company, from the work in the estates to the winery. The estate is a committed to preserve the traditions and not abandon the teachings of those who came before them, at the same time supplement this knowledge with the use of modern technologies.

I don’t think he’ll mind me featuring this affordable little beauty. It’s 70% Barbera and 30% Nebbiolo, from Monforte. It’s also very clear that 2015 is a very good vintage in this neck of the woods. Perfumed with musk and roses, dusted with spice and cocoa, and full of fetching mixed red berry and red cherry flavour. Medium bodied, supple and mouth-filling, though light on its feet, acidity is fresh, and fine chalky tannin trails off on a long sweet and spicy finish. Drink now and over the next few years. It’s a great, and non-threatening, introduction to Northern Italian red wine. Tasted: Aug16; Alcohol : 14%; Price: $30; Closure: Diam; Drink: 2016 -2020+ ; Rated: 93 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
