Bannockburn Shiraz 2010
Bannockburn Vineyards was established by Stuart Hooper in 1974.His vision was to create a vineyard which would produce Australian wine of a quality to emulate the great wines of France, in particular the great Burgundies. Stuart Hooper had a purist, uncompromising approach to quality grape growing and winemaking. He had a strong belief in making wines which genuinely reflect the flavours of the vineyard.
Although Stuart has since passed away, Bannockburn Vineyards remains in the Hooper family and his philosophy remains as the cornerstone behind all we do at Bannockburn today.
The De La Roche vineyard is possibly unique in this country being a close-planted Shiraz vineyard. And for added interest, the vineyard has been planted with cuttings originating from the pedigree vineyards of Bests and Tahbilk. Dry-grown and organically managed, the low yielding vines are already outperforming other vineyards that are much older, displaying exceptional fruit flavours and some very exciting results. Approximately 250 cases produced.
The 2010 season provided close to ideal growing conditions at Bannockburn. This shiraz was 100% whole bunch fermented to enhance interest and intrigue. Following a natural yeast fermentation the wine spent 2 years in aged French oak puncheons. A great vintage for Bannockburn shiraz, showing all the power and elegance derived from cool climate fruit.
