Antinori is a name synonymous with wine in Italy, the equivalent of the royal family of wine in the country. Intimately involved in the wine industry of Italy since 1385, initially in Tuscany, but in more recent years their influence has grown seeing them involved in wine-making projects across the country. They were instrumental in the renaissance of Chianti and their portfolio of wines includes some stellar names such as Tignanello - the Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc blend that was most influential in the Super Tuscan movement, Solaia - the Cabernet dominant blend also from the Tignanello Estate and the beautiful Peppoli Chianti Classico.
The Marchese Antinori Riserva is produced exclusively in better vintages and solely from the finest grapes of the family’s proprietary vineyards: Tignanello, Badia a Passignano, and Pèppoli at Mercatale Val di Pesa in the production zone of the Chianti Classico appellation.
The 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva Marchese Antinori is distinguished in this lineup for its freshness and aromatic intensity, both signatures of the Tignanello estate. Freshly cut flowers, sweet red berries, mint and cinnamon are some of the notes that meld together. Lithe, medium in body and gracious, the 2012 is wonderfully refined from start to finish. Today, my sense is that the 2012 still has room for improvement. Drink 2016-2027. Rating: 91+ Points; Antonio Galloni; Vinous
