Agly Bros Cotes du Roussillon 2013
Founded in 1998 after realising the similarities in their approach to a wine growing philosophy and the expression of terroir in their wines was Cambrien Pty Ltd. Cambrien is a joint venture between Chapoutier and Jasper Hill, which has now realised the arrival of two unique wines: La Pleiade Shiraz and Agly Brothers Cotes du Roussillon AOC. After shunning agro-chemicals and adopting biodynamic farming practices, the wines of Cambrien are made with simplicity and minimal intervention so that the most powerful arguments for these wines are expressed in the glass.
The original blend has changed from Carignan dominant to superior 60% Syrah dominant, 20% Grenache and 20% Carignan, resulting in an even greater expression of the fabulous terroir around the tiny village of Latour de France in the Agly Valley. High scoring (94-96) points in eRobertParker #218 Apr 2015 – to quote “ it has the purity and focus of the vintage to go with superb notes of blackberry and black-cherry-like fruit, pepper, bouquet garni and incredible minerality. A big, rich, medium to full-bodied effort, it has great acidity, a silky, elegant texture and knockout length. Unfortunately, there were only 300 cases produced.” Of which, less than half comes to Australia!
